Play for a Cure Oregon 2021

April 13, 2021

Greetings Play For a Cure participants and supporters,

We hope this finds you well after enduring a very challenging last year.

Thank you to our sponsors and to those of you who supported the Linda L Vladyka Breast Wellness Foundation during the last year! You made it possible for us to give our beneficiaries $11,000 to be used for emergency financial aid for breast cancer patients in Oregon!

Now here we are and many are wondering… “Will we play?” Out of an abundance of caution for ALL our participants we have decided not to host Play for a Cure Oregon 2021.

Along with you, we hoped things would be “back to normal” in 2021 and we looked forward to hosting the 20th Play for a Cure Oregon to celebrate a huge milestone! We also hoped to be celebrating getting beyond COVID but, unfortunately, that is not the reality.

Even with vaccinations being widely distributed, COVID continues to be a serious concern. We are still faced with restrictions for large gatherings and that continues to fluctuate making it difficult to plan for an event like ours that is still a few months away. Restricting participation at a fundraising event threatens to make the effort in vain. Under the current restrictions, Play for a Cure Oregon could not continue to have the participation, and as a result, be the event we have all loved.

Along with the decision not to host Play for a Cure Oregon 2021, the LLV Foundation has made the difficult decision not to continue hosting the tournament.

Because of you we have accomplished more than we ever dreamed possible in the last 20 years in spite of a number of significant challenges. We have decided to continue our partnership with the City of Salem Softball program and focus on the three youth fast pitch tournaments as COVID restrictions will allow. Those tournaments will be held: May 8-9, June 18-20 and July 2-5 at Wallace Park.

This was not an easy decision to make. We considered many different factors and feel this is how we will best be able to continue. The LLV Foundation will continue to operate as a non-profit organization and we intend to find other opportunities to support the needs of individuals in our community affected by breast cancer.

We hope to be able to plan an event at some point to celebrate 20 years of playing for a cure. We will keep you posted regarding those details.

On behalf of the LLV Foundation and all of the individuals whose lives have been touched, thank you for all you have done to support us for the last 20 years.

Until there’s a Cure,

Kris Knox
